If you have been around the Internet even a short time you would think  that there are nearly as many internet marketing success tips as there are internet marketers. Some of these tips are based on real experience, but often are general in nature and of little help. Here are3 tips that are specific and can be found in any profitable online venture.

1. Do something

It doesn’t matter how much you plan if you never do anything.  One of the chief problems that newer internet marketers have is that they keep trying to learn, but never take any action.  You could be the most knowledgeable internet marketer in the world, but without action, your knowledge has no real value.

I think the fear of failure may keep many people from taking action. We all fail. This is true of all business both online and offline. In fact, I read somewhere that those who are considered among the most successful heads of business make wrong decisions and fail about 50% of the time.

Internet marketing is a tough business and failure at some stage is inevitable.  When you fail, consider it a learning experience. A good thing about working online is that if you website is poor, it can be fixed.  If your strategy doesn’t work, you can change it. Every problem that you have can be fixed.

2.   The Internet Is Flexible

One characteristic that differentiates online and offline businesses is that the internet is much more fluid than the real world. Search engine strategies are always evolving and becoming more refined.  The internet is an ever changing world that is controlled by the people creating websites and surfing the web. Every new technology can affect your website and your online business.

This isn’t true for businesses offline. For example, the last BIG revolution in restaurants is the POS (point of sale) touch-screen system and was introduced decades ago.  The last BIG revolution on the internet came from the telecommunications industry with the advent of mobile surfing, or was it Twitter, or was it Facebook, or was it mobile television?  The internet is always experiencing the next BIG revolution, so it is important to stay updated and not allow your strategies to become stagnant.

3. The Internet is a Business!

It is not a hobby; although it can be if that is the way you choose to use it. If you want it to be a business, then you must treat it as a business. Until you realize that it must be treated with the same level of dedication and seriousness as an offline business, you will have problems succeeding.

These 3 tips are just the beginning. They may be compared to the orientation you would receive if you were newly employed in an offline business. There are many additional skills that you must learn in order to be successful in an Internet home business. But it will be difficult to create a durable business without accepting that these 3 tips are keys to success.  Once you realize this, you will be a step ahead of most other hopeful internet marketers.
