If you have been around the Internet for even a short time you’ve no doubt received numerous tips on how to make your internet work from home easier or more successful. Unfortunately, many of these tips can quickly prove to be counter-productive and make working from home no better than going to work in a cubicle.  Here are 3 work from home on the internet tips that you may want to ignore.

1.   Get Up Early and Work Like You Have a 9 to 5 Job

Why? I happen to be a morning person but realize not everyone is. More than likely one of the reasons that you chose to work from home on the Internet, was so that you could set your own hours. You know when your high energy peaks occur so you should be the one to determine the hours that you work.

The important thing is to set a schedule that you can follow, and to then work that schedule. The internet never closes; it doesn’t even sleep, so don’t feel bad working on your own schedule. In fact, several successful freelance writers actually work based upon 30-35 hour days instead of 24 hour days, because that is their bodies natural cycle.

2. The Way You Dress Will Determine How You Work

I understand how that concept works in a formal offline business setting. However, I don’t understand why you should get all dressed up to work at home.. If you can work at home on the internet efficiently while staying in your pajamas, then stay in your pajamas. Take several breaks throughout your day to help you get you second wind. Much like the first tip, do what you need to do in order to work efficiently.

3.  A Separate Work-Room is a Must

Here again, a separate work room may benefit some people, but not everyone. This is another common tip that should not be accepted as a hard and fast rule.

There is a story about a successful Internet marketer who started out with several roommates all working from laptops as freelance writers.  They worked in lounge chairs circled around the television. They occasionally took turns playing each other at various video games to relax.  When they weren’t playing, they worked, and they were extremely productive. They consistently worked and played over 10 hour days on this type of routine. Because the work was integrated throughout their daily schedule, it didn’t feel like work at all. Years later, when they were all living with their wives and had all tried to create a separate work space, they found that it just did not work for them.

There is no shortage of work from home on the internet tips, but we are all individuals and cannot be cast in the same mould. What works for me may not work for you. This does not mean that you should ignore tips from experienced internet marketers. You should, however, determine what works best for you.
