Should you have a large internet home business website to promote a large number of products or a small site focusing on just a few products? Actually there is no right answer. There are many approaches you can take as an internet marketer when setting up your site. No matter what style you choose there are some fundamental elements that are found in most successful affiliate websites.

1. Focus

As I mentioned, it is important to decide how many different products or services will be promoted on your website.  Some affiliate marketers want their entire website to only promote a few products, where as others promote a large number.  When setting up a business website, the overall “feel” of the website should be consistent with how many offers are being promoted.  If you want to focus on one or a handful of products, then the website should feel very targeted and specific.  If you will be promoting a large number of products, it becomes important that you make the site easy to navigate.

2.   Substance

Your website should be more than a product sales page. It should provide some value to your visitors. Some websites will only have a dozen or so articles and that is it, whereas other websites are continually adding more and more content on a daily or weekly basis.  Determining how much content you want on your website is important to consider when setting up a business website.  If there are only a few unique articles, then every article can be on an independent page. However, if there will eventually be a large number of articles, then the design will be a little different in order to highlight the larger number of articles.

3.   Disclosure

You should be aware of changes that were made in regards to FTC rules governing affiliate marketers. They may seem a little overwhelming initially, for newer affiliate marketers; however, little more is needed than a disclaimer that some of the links are affiliate links.  This can be in a variety of places, some websites have it in the footer, sidebar, or on an independent page.  Location isn’t really a big issue, but the disclaimer must be somewhere on your website.  .

There are an almost endless number of ways to make a website standout from the rest.  Creating unique formats, styles, color palates, photos, logos, and many other options are great ways of making a website different from all of the rest. For the most part much of those are unimportant. One of the most successful websites that I know was quite simple in style but it did contain the 3 elements mentioned in this article.
