Whether blog commenting is beneficial or not is often debated when discussing search engine optimization and building back links.  While this is a legitimate conversation, it often misses the point.

Even if you doubt that the back links being built will help your search engine rankings, commenting on other people’s blogs is a pretty good strategy. In order better to understand why blog commenting is still worth your time and effort, let’s take some time and examine what leaving a comment on someone else’s blog can really do for you.

We can agree that the principal purpose of blog comments is to create more traffic to your website. While great content is necessary, without help it won’t make your blog popular or build your readership.  If people don’t know it’s there, you can’t expect it to get any attention.

However, when you comment on blogs you create a very potent tool because it allows you to the interest of other people interested in your niche. Other benefits include establishing your knowledge of your subject thereby increasing your credibility. This will often create lasting relationships with your readers and other internet marketers.

There is no doubt that leaving blog comments is something that will help, but the more significant question is whether or not it is worth your time. In order to be a valuable strategy, you need to have a plan of action which requires a minimum amount of time to complete on a regular basis. Here’s a quick look at an easy blog commenting strategy that requires only 30 minutes to one hour a week.

The first two steps are essentially foundation steps. First, you need to find out where your targeted customers are already hanging out. The easiest way to determine this is to observe other popular blogs within your niche. If you find comments being left over and over again on those blogs, then you can bet that your potential customers are actively engaged with that blog. This means that you can connect to them with a comment of your own.

The second step is to establish which of the blogs provide you with the best options. It’s best then to limit the number on which you will comment on to no more than 20 or 25.I think the ideal frequency is to make a meaningful comment once a week on each blog.

With this approach you will get maximum visibility on web properties which are targeting the same market that you are. This strategy also shows your interest and lets the people know you are being helpful to them.

When using this strategy, you will not only gain the attention of other people reading those blogs, but often from the blog owners themselves.  As a result, you will be able to build relationships and partnerships as well within the industry. In addition, you will become more well known and interest in your website will increase..

If you plan properly and follow this strategy it shouldn’t require more than an hour or so a week. I’m sure you will find the time and effort you spend in blog commenting pay off in dividends exceeding your expectation.
