Search engine optimization is not something that has to be difficult for you to do. As a matter of fact it can be done fairly easily if you follow a few of the basics.

This means learning how to do a handful of things correctly and then repeating yourself over and over. Here are four of the basics for easy search engine optimization.

1. Build keyword lists. You must know what keywords you are going to target in all of the marketing you do. I like the free version of Traffic Travis for building a good keyword list of 100 and 200 words.

The words will be used to build web pages, do article marketing, create blog articles, and so on. The more words you can target the more traffic you can get from them.

2. Hyperlink your keywords. If you’re doing article marketing hyperlink your primary keyword phrase in your resource box. Another thing to do is create a signature file and hyper link your keyword phrase in discussion forums.

Google puts a lot of emphasis on keyword phrases that are hyperlinked back to webpages. Therefore do not only hyperlinked to your home page, but deep link as well.

3. On page factors. Create headline tags around your primary phrase for a specific page. Do linking to other pages on your site by including links to these pages on your blog sidebar, text links in the body of the articles and so on.

4. Do a blog post correctly. I really like blogs because of how easy they are to do search engine optimization.

WordPress is great because they have plug-ins that will help you set up your blog post correctly. You should be using your keyword phrase in the title of the blog post.

Add it in the beginning of the first sentence in paragraph 1, and again in the last sentence or your final paragraph. Use variations of it in the body of the blog article.

To help the search engines know what the blog article is about you can also add emphasis to the keyword phrase by bolding it, underlining it, or putting it in italics.

These are handful of the easy search engine optimization things you can do to help the search engines know what your website and blog is about.

One of the primary steps to successful search engine optimization is keyword research. SEO in and of itself can be quite intimidating to many people coupled with the fact that keyword research can be very data demanding.

It is really easy to get bogged down in all of the data and never make any progress. One way to overcome this problem is to divide your keyword list into categories.

This means that you need to find a way to attach some meaning to your keywords. You could find hundreds or even thousands of keywords with the number of monthly searches and the amount of competition, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you know what to do with them.

Initially you should build a keyword list which you can easily do with a tool like Google Adwords Keyword Tool. If your website is promoting dog training, for example, you could end up with hundreds of keywords. Your next step then is to collect information pertaining to these keywords.

Here is where the categories come into play. You would create categories like: house train your dog, dog training tips, dog training supplies, aggressive dog training, etc. Next, using a program like Excel put in the categories and list the pertinent keywords under each category.

Once your spreadsheets are finished you will find that you actually have a map to
build your home business website. By reviewing your keyword research you may find that most people are searching for “how to house train your dog”. Therefore, the main category page on your site should be set up to spotlight on this topic.

Keyword research is not only one of the first steps to effective search engine optimization, but it is also one of the most important. By breaking down all of your keywords into categories, you will be able to quickly see what the data is trying to tell you.

Knowing the search volume of 1,000 keywords doesn’t necessarily tell you anything. However, having all of those keywords broken down and sorted by category can tell you how you should create your website navigation structure as well as how to create landing pages with maximum appeal.

Keyword research is the first of many steps for achieving successful search engine optimization and to build your home business. It is an important step and should not be overlooked.
