Is 7 a magic number? What about the seven wonders of the world, the seven seas, the seven deadly sins, the seven ages of man, the seven levels of hell, the seven primary colors, the seven notes of the musical scale, and the seven days of the week?  7 is even lucky in dice.

When it comes to selling, there is an assortment of different strategies that are all equally effective but they all center on a nucleus group of words. And the amazing thing is that this nucleus is comprised of 7 words that will help you get the attention of your readers.

I’ll bet you already know that the first is the word FREE. This word just attracts people. If it’s free someone will want it. It could be a free report, an ebook or video. This will not only help people learn something about your business but also establish some trust.

Too often web copy is so focused on the marketing that the needs of the reader are forgotten. The readers need to know that you are interested in solving their problems. So use the word YOU frequently.

“NEW” is another great word to use, even though it isn’t new.  Telephones aren’t new, in fact iPhones aren’t even new anymore.  That doesn’t stop a new cell phone from hitting the market every week.  Does it look and feel just like the past 10 new phones?  Of course it does, but it’s still new.

GUARANTEED is a very important word.  Remember, online shoppers are wary. This is the reason you give freebies. I just purchased a program yesterday that came with a 3 month trial and a guarantee of full refund for any reason. Some online purchases come with longer guarantee periods. This gives the reader confidence in the product and an incentive to make the purchase.

One thing you are taught when learning to write sales copy is to emphasize the BENEFITS of your product or service. It’s OK to mention features but people make purchases because of the benefits that are provided, not the features.

If you know that something works you are more likely to buy it. If it is new without any track record you will be less likely to make the purchase. However, if the product has favorable RESULTS which are PROVEN you will be more likely to purchase. If you can tell your customers what they can expect with the product they will believe the benefits you’ve described.

It doesn’t matter who your customers are, these 7 words will contribute to your internet based marketing success and go a long way in improving your web copy. Many people actually search the web because of want rather than need. You can use these words to build desire and turn it into a need.

“About 40% of children with an autism spectrum disorder do not talk at all. Another 25%–30% of children with autism have some words at 12 to 18 months of age and then lose them.  Others may speak, but not until later in childhood.” CDC

Now is the most critical time to help. This is a competition for funding and the other projects are gaining more support than we are.  Each of us can vote three times a day. Please help us get this badly needed school off the ground for autistic children everywhere. Even if you supported other projects, you can vote for this one too!  PLEASE HELP!!

Many internet home based business owners shun Facebook for some reason. In my opinion, if you want to be successful at internet based marketing you should be on Facebook.

The best reason I can think of is simply because it has become the most popular social site on the Internet. I’m not advocating spending hours on end on the site but an hour or so a week has the potential to reap benefits for your busines.

The first and perhaps most important thing you can do is use Facebook to highlight the personality of you and your business.  Keep in mind, it is a social site so simply telling people to buy something won’t be effective. You should engage with customers and build relationships by creating a Fan page for your business.  This will give all of your customers and prospective customers a feel for what you are offering and how your business can help them.

A good internet marketing technique is to create a social circle with other people in your niche on Facebook. You can also use it to network and build partnerships with complimentary businesses in your own area.

Another way to use Facebook is to add it to your business blog.  This way people who read your blog, even if they aren’t customers can share your posts with their friends. There are a ton of plugins or small lines of code that you can use.  This will not only give you backlinks, but allow you to leverage Facebook users to boost your online exposure.

Since Facebook is all about interacting, a great way to do this is by holding a contest. However, before you start be sure to read the Facebook guidelines.  If you break a rule, Facebook may shut you down.

Facebook Ads are highly targeted and comparatively inexpensive compared to other types of PPC opportunities. This may not become the principal part of your advertising policy, but because it is reasonably priced, it may be worthwhile in providing a boost for your business.

There are an unlimited number of ways that you can promote your internet home based business on Facebook.  It just takes a few hours a week and some creativity. No matter what tactics you choose to use, remember that it is a social network first and foremost.

Engage with customers and build relationships. If you do this the business will come.

If you have a business blog, you are undoubtedly trying to sell an idea or a product – either your own or someone else’s. To have successful internet based marketing you will need to establish some degree of credibility with your readers. How are you going to accomplish this?

1. Focus on Establishing your Credibility. Blogging in itself will give you some credibility but you will need more. Whatever your topic or niche, take the time to educate yourself so that you are knowledgeable. Then when you write your readers will soon consider you an expert and you will earn their trust.

2. Give some Details. Don’t “go lightly” with a blog article. Instead write in some detail about the subject. That way your readers will realize that you really know your topic. That’s what will make you stand out from your competition.

3. Tell Them Why. If you are writing about a product, you need to give some evidence that it works. If you have used the product tell how it has worked and benefited you. Even if you are just expressing an opinion about something give a reason for your opinion.

4. Don’t be Afraid to Swim Upstream. Many popular viewpoints that persist are wrong. If you discover any of these go ahead and raise questions about them in your blog. Just as in any good debate if you have evidence to present that will back up your views you will advance your credibility.

5. Create Relationships with Other Experts. If you can prove to your readers that you are interacting in a professional manner with other people that are considered to be experts, then you get an instant boost to your online credibility. This is true even if there are disagreements.

I can’t think of any industry or profession where experts do not know each other. Many of them disagree with each other. In fact just last night on 60 Minutes I observed a segment involving archeology where the experts disagreed with each other on the results of a study. This doesn’t matter as long as the conduct is professional.

These 5 strategies, especially when combined, will help you to improve your online credibility. If people trust you they will purchase your products. Credibility can create a huge benefit to your blog and to your internet based marketing success.

How much should you spend to improve a particular portion of your sales? If you can improve some area of your sales, you certainly should. Split testing is a way of doing this and is considered part of successful internet based marketing. The important thing is to know when you have tested enough.

Let’s take a few moments to examine this testing process. You might examine the color scheme of your site for example comparing blue against red. After a reasonable sample size of visitors you find that the 2 colors are just about even but the blue is a little better. That doesn’t mean that blue is the best, only that it is better than red. So now you test the blue against some other colors, and in the end you do find that blue is the best.

What is next? You test 2 versions of the title and the go through the same process as with the color testing against multiple titles.

The point I am making here is that at some point your testing is costing more than you are gaining from it. Some internet marketers will disagree and say that you’re never done testing. Let’s take a look at this.

Perhaps you have spent not only hours, days or weeks on testing, but also in some instances a month or more. Remember, time is money. Could you have spent that time doing something that would have actually generated income? You could be losing customers because people are not converting as high since you are concentrating on testing and making changes on you site rather than marketing.

Please understand, I think split testing is good and serves a purpose. It is one of many successful internet based marketing techniques. My point is that you should not go overboard and you should not test everything just because you can. Determine what your conversion goals are, and then test, and once you have reached your goal move on.

It is difficult to get people to your squeeze page, so once they are there, make sure you get them on your list. In order to build your list it is important that you have a well designed squeeze page.

Actually the fundamentals of a squeeze page are pretty simple and even common sense, yet many people overlook them. If you want a squeeze page that converts, then make sure to keep these basic elements in mind.

The most important thing is the need to focus on a single message. That message is “join my list.” You want visitors to focus on what you have to offer, and not being distracted by advertisements or external links.

Ideally, a privacy policy and terms of service are the only other messages you want on the page. The main purpose of the squeeze page is to direct visitors to your message.

In addition to the simplicity theme, is the visual focal point. Visitors cannot opt in if they don’t see the opt in box or if they get distracted by hundreds of images. Make sure that your opt in box is above the fold and make sure that it stands out. The easiest way to do this is to add extra white-space around it. That way it looks like it is alone on an island and your visitor’s eye will naturally be drawn to it.

Another important thing is to reward your visitors for opting in. They are on your site because they are seeking information or answers to a question so it makes good sense to give them something in return for their visit.

What you give could be a free report, a video or a subscription to your newsletter. Whatever it is you offer, be certain that it is something that pertains to your business.

Some squeeze pages go overboard in asking for information – name, address, email address, phone number, date of birth, etc. This is not a good way to maximize your conversions. It is a proven fact that the less you ask for, the higher your conversions will be. My recommendation is to ask only for the email address and name.

If you don’t have a good squeeze page, you are throwing away time, money, and essential resources. However, if you want internet based marketing success you need a squeeze page that converts. So make sure to implement the basic elements in this article.

You may be unaware of the fact that there are many ways that you can undermine your internet business without even being aware of it. Fortunately, because these factors are now well researched and well established, there are some simple steps that you can take to protect yourself.

1. What type of internet business you are running? This is important and you will see why in a moment. Most internet business owners start out as an independent contractor or sole proprietor. The chief advantage to this, especially when you are just starting out, is the tax benefit. On the other hand any mistake you make including defaulting on a loan is entirely your responsibility.

At some point, if not in the beginning, better options would be to create a limited liability corporation or a corporation.

2. Use the services of an accountant or, at the very least, a good bookkeeper. With today’s tax codes, hiring a professional can avoid a lot of problems. If you are in the United States, trouble with the IRS can kill your business in a hurry.

Running an internet based marketing business has some nuances that makes it different than brick and mortar businesses, especially if it is being run out of you home. This is especially true when it comes to reporting income and knowing what you can deduct as legitimate expenses and overhead.

3. Hiring an accountant is worth the money you will spend for the benefit of the protection you will receive.

Another way to protect your internet home business is to employ the use of a business attorney. This doesn’t need to be someone that you talk to on a regular basis, simply someone that you are comfortable having them look over legal documents.

Most of your work is done online so you will likely have fewer legal documents than many other types of businesses, especially if you do not have any employees. But you will have concerns with items such as legal contracts, privacy policies, advertiser agreements, etc.

It really isn’t difficult to protect your internet home based business, but quite a few home business owners do. The 3 areas I have mentioned here are very common and very important, and should be addressed early in the development of your internet based marketing business.
