2 Free Business Tools that can Become Costly
I am sure that you have heard the quote “there is no free Lunch”. That phrase can be applied to a great number of online business tools that are advertised as free.
While it is true that some tools such as keyword research tools are really free, there are others which are advertised as being free which can end up as quite costly. So that you can understand the difference, let’s look at some of the “free” tools which can become costly.
1. Website/Hosting/Domain
You can get a free website or blog at WordPress.com or Blogger.com. However, these companies place restrictions on how you can make money from your site along with a variety of other restrictions. In fact, they can shut down your site.
This type of site will do little to improve your business or to enhance your reputation and credibility. You will be far better off to invest money in a domain name and shared hosting with one of the higher rated hosting companies. Some of these are HostGator, Bluehost and iPage. You can find these and others listed and rated on Yahoo or Google.
I went through this process initially hoping to begin using free sites and later transferring to a paid host and found that I could not redirect my free site. As a result it was necessary to start over to rebuild my website.
2. Auto Responder Services
There are some free versions of autoresponder services available and it is tempting to use them. A good question to ask is why they would be free. Remember, there is no free lunch. These services have to somehow make money and the do this by placing advertisements at various places on every one of your messages.
I do not think you would want ads that might distract your readers from the message you are trying to convey. This would be especially true if the ads had no relationship to your message.
Again you are far better off to invest in a commercial autoresponder service. Many of them are affordable and will be a positive factor in the development of the success of your internet based marketing business. Two of these are Aweber and GetResonse.
Some free tools can help your business and contribute to low cost internet marketing, but some will end up costing you more than the commercial tools. Investigate the free services fully in order that you make the correct decision as to which ones may hurt your business and which ones can really help.
