Home Business Success Archives

Have you any idea what people who visit your website think about it? The question itself is pretty simple – are your customers happy with your website? I would hazard a guess that most internet marketers don’t know. If this is the case they may be jeopardizing their home based business success.

Basically there are 3 ways to find out what your customers really think of your site.

Analytics

There are several tools available to perform this task but the most universally used one is Google Analytics. This instrument will provide a lot of information about your site. Primarily you should be concerned with the number of visitors and how many pages they visit. If they visit only one page and leave your site is lacking in the ability to gain their interest.

Conduct Surveys

Surveys are good in that you can get suggestions about how to make positive changes that will benefit your site. You can find survey companies, some of which are free, that will help you with surveys.

Use Social Media

This can be a good source to garner opinions about your website. However, unlike surveys where you can ask a number of questions, you should ask only one specific question about a particular aspect of your site.

Some websites have fancy headers with colorful logos that may attract attention but if your visitors cannot easily navigate your site and find what they are looking for they won’t stay very long. Listing the major topics will provide a good road map and a search box is also helpful.

If you learn what makes your visitors happy, provide beneficial information for them on your website and make it easy for them to locate what they are searching for, you will be moving toward home based business success.

A lot of people get so involved with creating their email messages that they completely neglect the most critical step – getting people to sign up in the first place. It’s awfully easy to get weighed down and discouraged with building a list when you have worked at it and found little success.

If this describes you do not give up. Building your list is important if you expect to earn extra money working from home. There are some things you can do to get sign ups to your opt-in page.

People Need a Reason to Sign Up

Opt-in pages also known as squeeze pages are really just mini-websites. Therefore the most important thing you need is a headline that contains a benefit for the reader. Then provide a short list of benefits and give them a reason to sign up such as the offer of a free report or a free video or ebook.

In exchange for you free offer ask for their email address and name.  If you ask for much additional information you may well succeed in driving them away

Make Your Opt-in Page Attractive.

The best squeeze pages are simple with an eye catching headline that is attractive, strong and persuasive, and contains as few words as possible. The incentive you offer should prove to the reader that once they give you their email address that you will give them something of value.

The page should also contain a very clear Privacy Policy statement indicating that the client’s information will not be shared or sold.

Create Multiple Opt-in Forms

Normally you should place one opt-in form above the fold on you website. However, one is not enough. You should have a sign up form at the bottom of each page and sometimes you may see sites with a form to sign up in the footer. You might even, at sometime, build a whole site that is a squeeze page, but that is a subject for another time.

Leverage Networks

Some people are actively involved with social media while others are active in forums or discussion boards.  No matter where else you are active, it is important to still direct people to your opt in form.  For example, if you are offering a new deal on Facebook, then make people opt in.  Instead of having a link directly to your content, use a link to opt in page and tell them that the “great deal” is only available to your list so if they want to take advantage of it, they must sign up.

These 4 techniques are guaranteed to increase the size of your email list and help you earn extra money working from home.

That first sale is generally the most difficult one to make for the average affiliate marketer. After that you would think it should be easy to repeat the process and continue to make sales. We may have a lot of excuses for not moving forward, but quite often we simply begin searching for a better program or a higher priced product. Unfortunately, this can lead us on a never ending chase.

First, there is no “one best program.” It is possible to experience this problem without even recognizing it. We simply convince ourselves that we are doing research to choose our next promotion. Research is necessary but should not become excessive.

So what does this mean to you?  It should mean that whatever program you are looking at right now is probably good enough.  As long as it meets your pre-requisites then go for it. In case you haven’t already created your own requirements here is a quick look at some of the most common.

Of course we are interested in the amount of money we are going to be paid. This may sound like an obvious standard to set, however you should not set a single price point.  The key is to set several payout baselines. This is especially true if you are marketing to a list.  The average person tends to make smaller purchases at the beginning and larger purchases as time goes on. So you might begin selling products that are inexpensive
and paying a  $5 commission. As you choose products later on you should expect much more.  If you are selling a product that is $100, then a $5 payout is obviously not enough.

The next thing to consider is what type of commissions you will be getting.  If you are focused on generating recurring commissions from membership sites or auto-ship programs, then you will often make less per sale because you will be paid multiple times.  This means that over the long-run, you will be getting much more in total commissions than from a single sale.

There is any number of standards that you could set. It all depends on the type of product or service that you choose to promote as these factors can affect the average commission rate. The main thing to remember is that as long you can find a product that meets your minimum criteria, it is time to start promoting.

Remember not to get caught up in that never ending chase for that miraculous product that will make you rich quickly. To become successful as an internet based affiliate marketer, you should start making income as soon as possible.

If you have a home based business you really should have your own website. However, having a website does not guarantee your success just as setting up a brick and mortar business doesn’t guarantee success either. You will run into roadblocks from time to time so you need to take steps to avoid them.

Even if you enjoy some degree of success in your internet based marketing, you will, at times, encounter a drop in both traffic and profit. You could spend hours or days trying to figure out the cause. Occasionally you may find the cause but generally you won’t.

A good thing to do is to check the competition in your niche to see what they are doing successfully. Perhaps you simply need to change your marketing plan to incorporate some of their tactics. Just keep in mind that the Internet is constantly changing and you must change with it.

Another problem is the one that will kill any business. I believe we all become discouraged and lose our motivation for one reason or another. It doesn’t matter how passionate you are, at some point your interest level will fall. There are two ways around this.

The first is to simply work through it, just like you would have to at a 9 to 5 job. The problem is that you are running the business and can easily justify spending your time on other things. The second option is to outsource some of your work. For example, you may have run out of ideas for articles so you could hire a free lance writer.

Your hosting service may develop a problem. They all do occasionally. For instance the server may crash. If that happens once you can accept that. But if it happens frequently it may well be time to search for a new hosting company.

Promoting your website will be expensive or time consuming, or both. This is a major problem for website owners. Most websites are successful because a lot of time was spent promoting them, not because a lot of time was spent building the site. There are many ways and combinations of ways to promote your site. You must experiment and test until you find the right combination. Your only other choice is to outsource.

Each of these potential website problems could cause your website to fail. You just need to be aware of them and be prepared to deal with them. By knowing what these problems are you may be able to avoid most of them altogether thereby assuring you internet based marketing success.

Most people with autism have mind blindness-the inability to develop an awareness of what another person is thinking to “put themselves in the shoes of another.” They don’t talk about personal feelings or those of others.
