If internet marketing was the easiest thing to do, everyone would be doing it. However, there are no magic buttons and it does require work.

There is one way to make it easier that far too many people overlook. They don’t make a plan. Simply saying “I’m going to make some money on the Internet” is not a plan.

At one time in my business career I owned a franchise and the company had a very detailed plan for just about every aspect of running the business. The purpose was to provide the best opportunity for the franchisee to achieve success based on the company’s success. I also owned a traditional bricks and mortar business. and we had both detailed short term and long term business plans. Both were updated annually at a two day retreat.

A business plan for internet marketing success is going to take time and effort. Without one, however, you will be wandering aimlessly through your business and any money you earn will be purely due to luck.

You may make some money, but you won’t realize your full profit potential without a business plan in place. Think of it as the difference between having a hobby and having a real business that makes you money.

Your plan is like a road map to help you define and reach your goals. A good way to start your business plan is to think of where you want to end up and then start working backwards from there.

What is your goal?  Do you want to develop the business to sell it for a profit?  Is your end goal to pass it in on to your heir? Perhaps you just want to earn money to allow you to travel extensively.

Whatever your goal you need to answer a lot of questions about how you are going to get there. Part of your plan also has to be a financial plan including how much you can invest.

The questions you ask are important. Try to think of as many aspects of your business as you can. And when answering, be as detailed and specific as you can.

The next step is to start organizing your plan. Try to arrange things in a logical way so they make more sense. As I mentioned earlier divide your plan into short and long term goals. You will find that it is necessary to alter your plans occasionally so you should revisit them periodically.

You should be ready to make revisions to your plan as needed. Your business is going to grow, and the Internet market place changes frequently. So you need to be able alter your plan when the situation warrants it. Remember, your business plan isn’t written in stone and is there to work for you.

As you can see, one of the chief factors in becoming a successful internet marketer is to have a business plan. Some would say that if you don’t have a business plan, then you don’t really have a business.

Internet marketing is a term that is frequently misunderstood. If you ask, some would say it’s all of the junk email messages they receive. Others may think that it pertains to all the information available online.

If you are thinking about becoming a home based business internet marketer, you need to be aware of what the term means. In simple terms marketing is described as the method of selling something and internet marketing is a way to reach large numbers of people promoting your product or service.

The first principle of marketing is to find those people who are interested in what you have to offer. The second principle is actually comprised of two points: 1. Advertise in the right places and, 2. do not advertise everywhere.

Any worthwhile internet marketing strategy is based upon systems. Many marketers think that if they have an attractive website and put it online the customers will come. You might make a little money this way, but it won’t be very profitable. So you need a step by step system.

To begin with you need to know who your market is even prior to creating you site. You should also determine how your product or service will help them. You need to be precise. Many inexperienced marketers think there are markets where none exist.

Assumptions are not good when it comes to internet marketing. It’s important that you locate the market first, and then work out how to accommodate them.

Next you need to figure out the best way for potential prospects to find you. An internet marketing system takes this into account. Again, here’s that word assume. You cannot assume that they will just find you by searching for some product or service at Google. That’s really a long shot.

They may, or they may not. The truth is that you get to decide to a major extent how you want people to find you. Whatever you choose, make it a part of your marketing system.

Now you can begin thinking about putting your website together. Your site needs to incorporate everything you have done up to this point. You need to know the best way to communicate with your market, and how you are going to direct them to your site.

There are many methods and strategies for internet marketing such as article writing, blogging, search engine optimization and forum marketing. In addition, the internet marketing business has appeal because you can make money from home and you have so many marketing ideas to choose from.

However, if you are like I was in the beginning with little experience and little first hand knowledge of the Internet, the learning curve can seem insurmountable. If you need help with any part of internet marketing I highly recommend the Affiliate Power Group as a great, inexpensive way to learn home based business internet marketing.

What Is Google +1 –Will It Really Matter?

click me

There has been a lot of conjecture about Google’s +1 (Plus One) button and what its effect was going to be on search engine rankings. Just in case you haven’t heard about it, + 1 is a sharing button that you can put on your blog or website.

Well, it’s live now and there are still questions.  There have been several preliminary tests related to how much effect it will and most of the results seem to be insignificant in terms of the big picture.  So the question is now that it’s live does it really matter?

1. It Will Matter, But How Much?

In my opinion it is going to matter chiefly because it’s a Google product. However I wouldn’t recommend banking on Google +1 to help you jump to the top of search engine rankings. They key is to keep it in perspective. More importantly understand what it really is.

Now Google did indicate that it would impact search engine rankings, you should remember that it is really more of a social tool than anything else.  It will likely have an impact similar to Twitter and Facebook, in that it can affect search engine social results.

2. Should You Use It?

Again, my opinion is a definite yes. Add Google +1 to your blog or website. Perhaps it  won’t have an impact big enough to justify trying to buy Google +1 clicks. It will never hurt that Google sees your content being shared with their sharing tool, but it unlikely to have much more value than Facebook or Twitter until it becomes more established.

Google has created a lot of great tools, but they have also created some failures. Google Wave is an illustration of a tool that was good in theory, but never realized its predicted outcome.

Google +1 will likely be a sharing tool that people who already rely primarily on Google tools such as Gmail, Chrome, and other similar resources will use heavily.

Your specific customer base or niche could play a large role in how much this tool will actually help you. If your clients are those that rely heavily on Google tools such as Gmail, Chrome, and other similar resources they will probably use + 1 a great deal.

In the final analysis, Google +1 is something that will affect the search engine rankings and it should be a sharing icon that you should add to your website or blog.  On the other hand, it probably won’t play a significant enough role to give reason for spending a lot of time and resources to make it focal point of your social strategy.

Remember, this is my opinion and this could change. It could end up being a game changer.  Since the future of Google +1 is uncertain at best, it is something that you should be aware of and continue to observe.

A major problem facing most home based businesses is that they have relatively small marketing and advertising budgets. Large companies do not face this problem. The Internet has been a great boost to the home business entrepreneur in this area.

Most home based businesses will always focus, at least in part, on organic traffic generation techniques such as boosting search engine rankings, submitting guest posts, and engaging in social media.

These techniques are fine, but they do leave out a vast number of opportunities that you are not taking advantage of. Here is a closer look at how you can get major results and enjoy home based business success without breaking your budget.

Since you are going to be investing in some form of paid advertising, the strategy phase is incredibly important. During this phase, there are several things which should be considered compulsory before you spend a cent on advertising.

It is important to focus on your target market as well as your competition so initially you should do a little bit of research. If you get as specific as possible you can be certain that your ads will appeal to your target audience. Additionally, it you can be more assured that you’re advertising is in a space that your target market visits on a regular basis.

One of the reasons for researching your competition is that you want to find out what is working for them and more importantly what isn’t. If you learn where they are spending most of their money you will know the locations in which they are most successful.

You can also find out what types of ads are in the first-class locations, because those types of ads are likely to be the most effective at engaging your target audience.

You should also consider any specific advertising options that would allow you to automatically target your prospects. For example, if you are a home based business and only want to deal with local clients then location based advertising options should be a priority, such as Facebook ads or local classifieds.

It almost goes without saying that you need to make you ads effective as possible since you are paying your hard earned money to place them. To achieve the best results you ad should have 3 components:

1. A clear call to action.
2. Some type of testimonial or proof.
3. Create a sense if scarcity.

Of course you should test the advertisement, and you also need to create a specific landing page. Since you are paying for this advertising, you have the unique opportunity to know exactly where your traffic is coming from. This will help you get major results with a minimum cost.

The cost is a primary factor in your advertising budget and you certainly do not want to bust your budget on advertising. However, even if your budget is small, the important thing is to get started.

If you do your research and create a sound strategy taking advantage of what you’ve learned from successful competitors, you will get a lot of exposure and enjoy major success with your home based business.
